WURSTFEST: LOVE THOSE SAUSAGES

The first Saturday of
November was a gorgeous sunny day and the grounds of Wurstfest were
teaming with sausage-eating, clogger-loving folks. The WurstHalle was the perfect venue
for our twenty-two cloggers since we could spread out and show off all the
dancers at one shot. The
standing-room-only crowd, which surrounded us on three sides, encroached upon
the dance floor, applauding loudly when we first took the “stage.” These folks clapped spontaneously throughout
the first number. The dancers’ feet and
legs were flying in all directions. When
the Fire on the Mountain Cloggers demonstrate TRADITIONAL clog dancing, that
means that each individual dances whatever steps he or she pleases. The only requirement for the dancers is to
keep the rhythm of the music. The Wurstfest was an ideal venue for our
old time dance steps. We soon became
accustomed to the roars of approval from the audience during our entire performance. We took time out to shake hands, eat some
great food, and polka to some of the bands before we headed to our second
destination of the day. Eisenhower
Park had been selected as the site of the Cancer Survivors’ Celebration
and we were the featured entertainment.
Unlike the Wurstfest crowd, these spectators were fairly quiet during
our routines, but they certainly roared their applause at the end of each
number.
